When to use a and when to use an.

Nouns that start with a consonant use a as an article.

Nouns that start with a vowel, a,e,i,o,u are usually with an.

a pair is usually always used in front of a noun, when the noun is something that has a left and a right side to, like a pair of pants.

Remember - A noun is a person, place or thing.

 Singular and Plural

How to make plurals

When you are making the plural, it means there is more than one thing.
With most nouns you usually just add an s on the end of the noun.

But,

if the noun ends on vowels, like o or on the letter y, then it is different.

on the letter "o"

If the know ends on o, like in tomato, then you usually add the ending –es, so it becomes tomatoes.

on the letter "y"

if the noun ends on y, like in country, then you usually take the y away and add i and the ending –es. So the word country becomes countries.

If you are making the plural of a pair then use the following example.

A pair of shoes.
Two pairs of shoes.

Adverb or adjective
In this exercise, you have to find out if the correct form is an adjective or an adverb. Adverbs tell something about the verb, and usually end on -ly. However, in the case of "good" and "well", "well" is an adverb, and "good" is an adjective. Adjectives describe the noun.
