Name the sport

In this game you will choose letters from the alphabet to spell the name of a sport. You can also time yourself, using a stopwatch, and see pictures of the different sports.

For basic users: you have a basic understanding of English and you can use familiar everyday expressions and phrases. You can communicate with others in a simple way, but may need help to say what you want to express.

Different sports

Do you know the names of different sports? Below are pictures of competitors doing some sports. Some of the statements that follow are true, while others are false. When you think you know which is which, click to see if you are correct or wrong. If you want a clue, click on the picture.

For independent users: you can understand, speak, read and write English without too much assistance. You can communicate in English, but it is not always in standard forms.

	This game is cricket. Cricket is played by teams of twenty on horseback. The picture shows a batsman who has hit the ball. This game was invented in China.
	This game was invented in North Africa. This game is American Football. Each year, teams play this sport in a grand final called the Superbowl. This game is Australian Rules Football.
	This sport is a form of motor racing. Each race is called a Grand Prize. The car in the picture is a Ferrari. The driver who has won most races is Alain Prost of France.
	Competitors in this sport go uphill from start to finish. The person in the picture is wearing skates. The picture shows a slalom race. Franz Klammer was one of France's greatest skiiers.
	This game is not really called football. The referee shows a yellow card when he sends a player off. The World Cup winners in 1954 and 1974 can never win the trophy again. In England this game has no rules.
	In this sport the rounds last seven minutes. If one boxer hits another on the waistband of his shorts, he wins. These fighters are amateurs. Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and Pelé are all world champion boxers.
	This game was invented in an English town, called Rugby. This game is played by teams of fifteen or thirteen. This game is played with a round ball. Players of the game are allowed to knock other players down.
	The person riding the horse is known as a joker. Horse racing is known as the Sport of Queens. The rider carries a whip and is allowed to strike the horse. The last horse to pass the winning post is the winner.
	These competitors are cycling. They are riding on motorbikes Riders in the Tour de France sometimes ride outside France. The leading rider in the Tour de France wears a green jersey.
	The competitors push the sleigh before jumping in. The sleigh is pulled by reindeer. Jamaica once entered a team in this sport for the winter Olympics. This kind of sleigh is called a bobcat.

The National Anthems Game

When a team or player wins a sporting event, the hosts usually play the national anthem of the country from which the winners come. In this game you will listen to some national anthems from around the world. When you think you recognize each one, you choose from a list of possibilities. When you have finished, you can check your score, to see how well you did.
